The Little Red Fort

Yesterday’s dreary rainy day ended up being perfect to make a blanket fort under the table and read our new book fair purchase; “The Little Red Fort”.

I love that this book is inspired by the classic “Little Red Hen”, you can certainly see the resemblance and similar lessons. This version injects a bit more #mightygirl into the storyline though.

Ruby is determined to build a backyard fort, even though her brothers refuse to help or encourage her. Appearances by her Grandma and Mother as she pieces together her fort make a bold statement that women and girls really can do anything they put their minds to. The repetition and rhyming text makes it so fun to read, and in the end everyone ends up helping and sharing in the joy of the little red fort.

I love the last page most, as it includes multiple ideas on how to make your own little fort. Incredibly inspiring!
