You’re never too old to learn something new, and this book showcases that in more ways than one. Featuring 40 bold, beautiful, and brave black women from almost every era, my little ladies and I have been soaking up a ton of new facts on them.
We picked up our copy just this weekend after perusing our local Barnes and Noble, and Miss E immediately asked if “the lady on the bus” was inside. She’s very interested to understand more about Rosa Parks and how she made her mark on history.
We’re having some pretty profound discussions about what life was like 60+ years ago and how people were treated. Admittedly I’m geeked at the opportunity to talk about the challenges these women have faced and this book makes the topic so much easier.
The illustrations are so relatable—almost angelic and the words on each page are easy to comprehend and explain to my 5 and 7 year old. Even Miss A, who is 2, was interested in listening. This is by far my favorite add to our library this month.
